Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the U.S.

Good Afternoon AC Miami Family,

As you all are aware, there is a current global concern about infection from the COVID-19/coronavirus. In these times our first priority is the health and well being of our players and the community. The public response to the virus may become disruptive to our lives and our Club, but it should be our last concern at the moment.

Although we do not have community spread at this time, we want to take the preventive steps to keep it that way. Therefore, I have decided to suspend the operation of all Athletic Club Miami events for 30 days.

My decision corroborates with the USSF’s current decision of suspending every event for 30 days, as well as the City of Miami Parks & Recreation Department locking down every event for the same period.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides plenty of information regarding the case, please take your precautionary steps. My personal input is that to take this situation as serious as possible and do not neglect the specialists advices. Despite the experts and the government’s advices, my friends in Spain and Italy were reporting to me that many people still hold huge personal gatherings, because they got impatient staying home for too long. Everybody should stay strong and focused at this time. Those actions might have led to the current bad situation in those countries. Also, do not feel awkward not shaking hands or refusing kisses for greetings, etc. This should be the norm for at least the next 30 days.

AC Miami is a very strong community and the parents proved it again how valuable our family is. Meredith Burns, Leonardo’s mom just offered to take care of a child in need from the U12 or U9 teams whose parents have to go to work during these days. Please write in the comments section if you need help or you want to offer some sort of support!

We will keep you posted with any upcoming news regarding make-up tournaments, practices, Soccer School, returning to the fields, etc.

Best regards,
Gabor Pasztor
President
